Bucket Drum Workshop
Alice offers together two distinct styles of events - direct action bucket drum corp training and community building events.
Each is personalized to the community booking the workshop.
Direct Action Drum Corp
Learn to play and march together as a bucket drum corp. Training is best spaced over a 2 day period, with 45 min-1 hr sessions per training. Suggested participant age is 12+ years old. This style is not accessible for all bodies as it involves attaching buckets around the waist and marching.
Community Engagement Event
Play with bucket drums and homemade percussion instruments while learning about the history of bucket drumming in Washington, DC, and the oppressions that street performers face in the city. This is a fun educational activity for people of all ages and the activity is accessible for all bodies that can hold a stick!

Training for Direct Action
Having a bucket drum corp at your direct action helps amplify your message, syncs up your action's chant leaders over longer distances, can get the crowd dancing, and can provide chant leaders a much needed vocal break while keeping the march's energy alive. This is a low-cost way to bring drumming to your action - no experienced drummers necessary. I like to say, if you feel like you can dance, you can bucket drum!
In this workshop we learn:
How to build, wear, and play a direct action bucket drum
How to respect chant leaders while playing along with dance-beats
Learning beats that can be played independently of chanting + how to start and stop playing those beats together using whistle commands
How to stand and march in formation so you look AND sound powerful
