Climate Action

Inescapable and Interconnected

Climate instability, caused by the burning of fossil fuels and biomass, threatens life as we know it. It sounds hyperbolic, but we must consider that we live within a finite system. We already see signs of agricultural and ecological collapse all around us; how much worse will it get before we say enough is enough?

Care for the majesty of life is not political; it is universal. However, while every bit of evidence points toward the reality of climate collapse, political leaders refuse to use their power to protect us. Disinformation rotted the core of the conversation about human's impact on life systems when we could be cooperating and making good jobs out of the need to switch to solar, wind, geothermal, storage, and well-regulated and safely maintained nuclear power.

The less we throw away and more we reduce, reuse, repurpose, and correctly recycle, the more responsible stewards of our home we can be. Here are some ideas:

Collective Action

Chesapeake Climate Action Network

We advocate for an end to the subsidization of biomass as a "renewable" energy through support of the Reclaim Renewable Energy Act of 2025 (shout out Clean Water Action!). Burning trash and biomass harms surrounding communities, leads to greenhouse gas and heavy metal air pollution, which causes higher rates of asthma and cancer.

Sunrise Movement

National and Local hubs have a very different feel to their action choices. Sunrise Movement DC offers community building and mutual aid activities.

Extinction Rebellion

XRDC leads local action, including creative disruption that calls for the end to new gas infrastructure in Washington, DC
